Animal Control & Shelter

Animal Control and ShelterWho We Are

The Hurricane Animal Shelter serves all of Hurricane City. Our shelter is a very modern and attractive facility. Our building is not only user-friendly for visitors and staff but also caters to the needs and comforts of our four-legged guests. Our successful adoption rates are close to the highest in the State. This is a statistic we are very proud of and work hard to maintain. We are staffed by two full-time animal control officers, one full-time and one part-time shelter attendant, and a number of wonderful and dedicated volunteers.

Adoption fees at our shelter are $60 for dogs (includes a microchip) and $50 for cats. All adopted animals are required to be spayed or neutered before placement in their new homes. Juvenile animals are adopted with a contract requiring the animal to be spayed or neutered by the date specified in the agreement.

The two Hurricane Veterinary Clinics in Hurricane offer discounted vaccinations, low-cost spay/neuter, and a free health exam at the time of adoption. View a list of pets currently available at this shelter.

Owner Release Form

Owners wishing to release their animals to Animal Control must download and fill out the Owner Relinquishment Form (PDF).

Before heading down to the shelter please call the shelter at 435-635-8314 to discuss rehoming your pet. Our shelter has limited dog and cat kennels and we need to ensure we have space for your pet. If for some reason we do not have space at that time, we can add you to a waitlist so that we can call you when a kennel becomes available. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!!!

Noise Complaint Form for Barking Dogs

Due to the increase in barking dog complaints we are providing a Noise Complaint Form (PDF) for better public access. The form must be filled out completely. The form is to ensure we have sufficient evidence that the barking dog is a nuisance. The form will be used as a legal document and may be utilized in court. Please do not falsify information.
