About Hurricane City Parks

Hurricane City is home to mild winters and sunshine throughout most of the year, making outdoor recreation a way of life. Parks and trails promote this way of life and are welcoming resources to the community. Our parks offer amenities such as; open space, picnic areas, play structures and ball fields. Our trails offer a walk back in time and away from the business of day-to-day life. However, new residents and those who have lived in the area for a while may not be familiar with where all of the parks/trails are and their specific amenities. Below is a quick list of the name, address, and amenities offered at each park/trail facility. For further park or trail details and pictures click on the park name.

Lets get out there and enjoy these beautiful green spaces!

Recreational activities are scheduled throughout the year at the parks. Please visit the Hurricane Recreation page for more information.

Future Parks and Planning

Our goal is to not only plan for the current park and recreational needs of the community, but for the future needs as well! The Parks Department has a number of parks in the works. The following paragraphs summarize these plans.

Master Plans

In 2008 the Parks Department finalized a Parks Master Plan that was adopted by the City Council. This includes many options for developing improvement plans for many of the existing parks.

A review of the Trails Master Plan is currently underway with the help of the recently formed Trails Committee.

The recently formed Tree Board has begun to take an inventory of significant trees within the city utilizing a computerized mapping application from the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. This inventory will open access to grant monies from various sources so the Parks Department can better maintain our tree resources.

To learn more about future park plans download the Parks presentation from the 2009 State of the City address.

New Parks

There are a number of new parks either under phased development or on the drawing board. Here is a summary of those facilities.

Hurricane 600 N Bike Park

A Bike Park featuring BMX style jumps is in the process of being developed on the North side of 600 North near the Spislbury Sports Complex. A map of the proposed Park is available, Future plans include adding a pump track. Rules will be posted on site, and if the breaking of rules becomes a problem, or the Bike Park is not respected and used in the manner it was designed, the park may be removed.

View videos of kids having fun on this track on Hurricane City's You Tube Channel. Look for the 600 N Bike Jump Series. For more photos visit our Facebook page.

Thrill Hill Bike Skills Park

The City Council has directed the Parks Department to look into developing a Bike Skills Park. Skills parks offer riders of all ages a safe environment to practice skills.  They are the welcome mat to mountain biking and offer opportunity for riders of all ages on all types of bikes to learn and practice bike handling in a planned safe natural environment that allows skills succession through progression based features that are all within a dynamic self taught environment. Skills parks offer a risk management solution to unauthorized jumps and features in municipalities and provides great opportunities for public, private partnership and non profit, volunteer club involvement.

Skills parks can include dirt jumps, wooden bridges, wall rides, pump tracks and teeter totters all methodically placed in the park for a fun and managed recreational experience.  Skills parks provide “free” opportunity to educate and increase experience for bike riders especially children, in a structured safe and managed area.  Skills parks offer gathering points for neighbors and members of the community to take part in healthy activity and can provide revenue generation for parks and recreation programming as well as local businesses. Visit the Thrill Hills Bike Skills Park page for more information.

Confluence Park

Our City Manager is representing Hurricane on the planning team for the development of the Confluence Park. Please visit the City Manager's page for updates. A printable PDF file of the approved plan can be downloaded by clicking here.
