Burn Permits

Burn Permits are now issued through the Hurricane Valley Fire District.

Formation of the New Hurricane Valley Fire District

On December 18, 2007 the Washington County Commission created the Hurricane Valley Fire District (HVFD) at the request of the City of Hurricane, La Verkin, Toquerville, and Virgin. The HVFD will provice fire and emergency services for these four cities and the unincorporated areas of the County within its boundary.

This new District is anministered by the Administrative Control Board. This five member board consists of one elected official from each of the four cities involved and an additional elected official from the City of Hurricane.

The district has been operating as part of the Hurricane City Fire Department since its formation with a 2008-2009 budget of $1,542,379. A portion of this budget was provided by each of the cities in the District and medical transport revenues. The City of Hurricane also paid for the administrative overhead costs. Currently the unincorporated areas of the County do not pay for the fire and emergency services they receive.

On the June 22, 2010 voters approved the annual property tax levy method for funding the fire district. More information on this ballot measure and the HVFD can be downloaded by clicking here.

The table below lists the schedule of public hearings to be held by the HVFD discussing District funding proposals.
