Hurricane City Emergency Management Plan

The City of Hurricane is currently working to revise and update its Emergency Management Plan for the City.   Police Chief Lynn Excell serves as the Emergency Management Director for the City.  He is currently working with City Department Heads and Administration, Community Volunteers and other State and local agencies, to formulate a plan that will allow communication to be maintained and resources allocated effectively during an emergency in a comprehensive manner.  As the plan is developed, updates will be posted to this site.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

In conjunction with the Hurricane Valley Fire District, the City of Hurricane is re-establishing CERT as part of the City's Emergency Management Plan.  For more information on this program, contact the Hurricane Valley Fire District at (435)635-9562.

CERT Class Opens to Public - Registration and fee required

Residents who want to learn basic first aid, emergency preparedness, triage, fire suppression and other safety skills are invited to register for a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class beginning in Hurricane Valley.

This 20-hour class is limited in size and filling fast. It will be held at the Old White Church in LaVerkin, 111 S. Main St., date will be listed when they come available.

Participants will need to set aside the hours of 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on each Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the two Saturday sessions. There is a nonrefundable $50 fee for the CERT course, payable at the Hurricane Police Department, 90 S. 700 W., at the time of registration. Anyone 12 years of age and over is welcome to attend this disaster preparedness course, which will be taught by CERT instructor Rita Bice.

Each of the skills learned during the CERT class are geared toward preparing individuals to be calm and ready for whatever may happen during a disaster. Students will also participate in a mass casualty exercise at the end of the course, which will allow everyone to practice what they were taught.

For more information about the CERT course or registration, contact Rita Bice at 635-9562.
