HURRICANE CITY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! There are many opportunities for volunteering with Hurricane City regardless of your age, experience, or available time. To become a volunteer just complete the following:
- Fill out a Volunteer Application. An application can be picked up in the Utility/Administration Department at the City Office, or click HERE to download a PDF version.
- Turn in the completed application to the Volunteer Coordinator in the Utility Office or by email (volunteer@cityhurricane.com) or fax (635-4284).
- After receiving your completed application, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss volunteer opportunities you are interested in and decide which one you want to try first. If you can't find anything you're interested in right now, keep checking the website, because Current Volunteer Opportunities are updated at least once a week, usually on Fridays.

- BIKE COMMITTEE - Volunteers will attend monthly meetings to organize bike park fundraisers and address concerns related to established bike parks.
- EVENT COMMITTEE - Volunteers are needed to help with organizing events. Contact Samantha for current committees needing volunteers.
- COMMUNITY GARDEN - Volunteers are needed to help with the organizing and work in the garden. Contact Samantha for more information.
- COMMUNITY CENTER SERVICE PROJECTS - The Community Center needs volunteer groups to help with various projects in the building. For more information contact Bryce King (668-5636).
- ANIMAL SHELTER - The shelter needs volunteers to help between the hours of 10am and 6pm Monday-Friday to help in the front office. Volunteers will be handling money, answering the phone, processing adoptions and help with dog licenses as well. Those interested must enjoy working with animals, pass a background check, and can't be allergic to animals. Contact Samantha if you are interested!
- EVENT CORPS - The city needs volunteers to be trained to help control the flow of traffic during parades, races, and other events as needed. They may also help with set up or clean up for City events. Volunteers need to be able to stand for up to two hours at a time, work well with people, and be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
- PARKS DEPARTMENT - Needs volunteers (at least 18 years old) to help a few hours a week with prepping ballfields and/or mowing lawns. Volunteers must pass a background check and complete the basic training provided.
- COMMUNITY CENTER - If you enjoy working with people and have some office skills, this would be a great opportunity for you! Volunteers are needed to fill shifts 4pm-8pm Monday through Thursday.

ASSIGNMENT SERVICE DESCRIPTION City Corps Volunteer time to assist various agencies of city government. Meet & greet, distribute materials, take minutes, answer phones & questions, inventory, etc. Event Corps Volunteers will be trained to act as flaggers for city sponsored events throughout the year, such as the Peach Days parade and the Hurricane Half Marathon. Minimum 1 year commitment is required. Project Corps Serve on a committee, work on a project, research a topic, or conduct feasibility studies as needed. Youth Council Youth learn how the city operates by acting as city council members, city manager, or department supervisors. Grant Writing Experienced grant writers can work with city departments to assist in writing and managing grants to fund city operations when available. Pioneer Heritage Museum Meet and greet, create and maintain displays, answer questions and help maintain area historic sites. Recreation Department Serve as coach for basketball, soccer, flag football, and other sports. You must commit to the entire season for the sport you are helping with.
Community Garden
The Garden is up and running! It was established to benefit the residents of Hurricane. It gives volunteers an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and work in a garden, learn how to grow things, and reap the rewards of their efforts. A portion of the produce will be donated directly to the Hurricane Food Bank. For more information on how you can be a part of the Community Garden visit the garden website.

Adopt-A-Block
This is an idea for a volunteer opportunity, and is still in the planning stages. We do need to know if there is any interest in groups participating in it, before we can pursue it any further. This program would give groups the opportunity to help keep Hurricane looking beautiful and control weeds and litter. Interested groups would receive training, a schedule, and be assigned to a block. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, and in return will be asked to clean their assigned block at least twice a year, especially before designated community events. Trash bags will be provided but volunteers will need to bring their own tools. This opportunity would be great for youth groups, scout troops, civic groups, clubs, and even families! This is a list of ideas for projects the city would benefit greatly from. Those interested in performing these projects will need to furnish their own supplies, and the city will provide support and coordination for the project. If you see something you would like to help with, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Install bicycle racks in a city park/building.
- Design and build a display case for the City Office.
- Build trailheads for the Hurricane Trail System.
- Help build trails for the Hurricane Trail System.
- Design, construct, and install recycling bins for a city park.
- Build compost bins for the Community Garden.
- Build an outside information board for the Community Center.
- Install a flagpole in a ballfield.
